Think that people who work from home don’t experience work from home stress, think again. People who have a home business or job may often experience as much, or more, stress as individuals who work outside of the home. Working from home has its own personal set of stressful woes—often because the worker feels pulled between work duties and household duties and chores.
Luckily, there are some simple things you can do to help put a smack down on work from home stress before it gets the best of you.
Stay organized and manage your time.
I know that you have heard this one a million times—but have you taken steps to actually make it work? You truly need a schedule if you are going to make your home job or business successful. When you don’t have a clear idea of what you need to do—and when you need to do it—chaos can follow. You don’t have to follow your schedule right down to the minute; however, scheduling parts of your day can definitely put you ahead of the game. While my MCA business is flexible, keeping a schedule helps me stay sane and keeps me from getting frazzled!
Add exercise into your routine.
If you love to exercise—or maybe even if you don’t– taking a 10 to 15 minute exercise break can really help delete stress from your day. If you are sitting behind the computer all day long, your body needs to stretch and move to keep you from feeling stiff and achy. Try some Yoga stretches or turn on a walking video, your body and your mind will thank you.
Interrupt your workday.
If you have the work, work, work attitude—which will keep you sitting at your desk all day long—you really need to work some interruptions into your day. If you aren’t into exercising, as I suggested above, just get up from your desk and find something to do for a few minutes. Maybe you can grab a snack and read a good book. Perhaps you find watching the news relaxing, or maybe you love to listen to music. Whatever works for you, let it take you away from your work for a few minutes—so you unwind.
Talk to “REAL” People.
We can often get caught up with our work relationships and don’t spend any time actually talking to people. Even if you don’t realize it, only talking and thinking about work can bring a lot of stress into your life. Take the time to actually interact with people around you. Talk about something other than work. You want to ensure that you are fulfilling the need for personal interaction, which can definitely help you distress.
